ABOUT:
Stevie Chow is a self-taught Canadian artist whose work is characterized by his use of acrylic, resin, and found objects to create large-scale paintings that are meant to serve as uplifting prompts for the homes of his collectors. Throughout his oeuvre, one can find a recurring theme of incorporating mindful text prompts that reflect his desire to use positive imagery and affirmations to counteract the distractions of modern life.
Much of Chow's inspiration can be traced back to his childhood, which was spent exploring the world with his parents, who were passionate about travel and photography. This exposure to a wide array of cultures from an early age led to an early fascination with the relationship between material wealth and happiness. This curiosity was solidified in adulthood when, after a brief stint as an oil and gas engineer, he chose to pursue an artistic path.
After moving to Los Angeles for music, Chow gained some traction as part of a duo project that played multiple local shows a week, including gigs at the SoHo House, Nascar, and a small tour in Mexico. However, the project eventually came to a bittersweet end as the band's vision began to diverge. In the aftermath, he moved back to his hometown of Calgary, where he reconnected with his lifelong passion for drawing and visual art.
2020 was a breakthrough year for Chow, as his work began to find its way into the collections of several influential entrepreneurs throughout the United States. This led to a snowball of commissions, a virtual solo exhibition, and a second solo exhibition in Manhattan. He also helped to raise close to a million dollars in charity auction sales.
His upcoming show entitled, “Words To Live By: Stevie Chow's Newest Exhibition of Visual Prompts For A Good Life”, opens at Vision XR Gallery in Belgium at the end of March will be unveiling a collection of new works that accent a clear maturation to his craft.
* Currently at the Royal College Of Art pursuing his masters in painting.
